Phil Post Office Scandal: CCTV captures employees opening package

A Philippine Post Office employee is caught on CCTV camera allegedly pilfering cash while a Bureau of Customs examiner looks on. The two employees are later later identified as Postman 1 Lovelyn de Leon and Omar Said as Customs Examiner.

ABS-CBNNews.com said that "two people may face charges for pilfering money from a parcel at the government's Central Mail Exchange Center (CMEC) in Pasay City."

"A closed circuit television (CCTV) footage showed that a woman, later identified as Postman 1 Lovelyn de Leon who works in the parcel division, opened a package and retrieved a white envelope from the back of a cellphone," ABS-CBN News added.

Authorities say that De Leon and Said "are in clear violation of regulations of the Bureau of Customs (BOC) and the Philippine Postal Corporation." The opening of parcels is prohibited unless the owners or addressees are present.

Postmaster General Josie dela Cruz said further investigation will be conducted to identify if there are syndicates behind anomalies in the government’s mailing service.

The 2 suspects, meanwhile, refused to answer questions from the media.
