Reno Air Race Show 2011 Crash Video (September 16, 2011)

A P-51 Mustang airplane flown by a renowned 74-year-old air racer and movie stunt pilot, crashes into the edge of the grandstands during the Gold Heat of the Reno Air Race Show held on Friday, September 16, 2011, at the Reno Stead Airport a few miles north of Reno, Nevada, USA.

Reports say the crash resulting in at least 3 deaths (including the pilot) injured also at least 62 spectators, of which at least 25 were critical.

The pilot, identified as Jimmy Leeward was likely killed in the crash, the show said in a statement. He was flying a P-51 Mustang. The event has been canceled and a memorial service will be held for the pilot Saturday afternoon, CNN said.

Leeward's "Galloping Ghost" plane was a P-51 Mustang fighter -- a class of plane that can fly at speeds in excess of 500 mph (800kph). Houghton said there appeared to be a "problem with the aircraft that caused it to go out of control," Russia Today reported.
