AMD bags Guinness World Record for fastest processor (VIDEO)

Advanced Micro Devices beats the world's fastest processor of 8.308GHz. Team AMD FX clocked a prerelease eight-core AMD FX desktop processor to a zippy 8.429GHz, beating the previous record, The Register reports Tuesday.
"We applaud AMD for their entry into Guinness World Records for achieving the Highest Frequency of a Computer Processor," said Freddie Hoff, adjudicator for Guinness World Records, The Register added.
Freddie Hoff will then present the award for the record-breaking performance at the AMD Fusion Zone event Tuesday in San Francisco. Reports said according to AMD in the news release Bulldozer CPU is set to launch in the fourth quarter of 2011.
"Team AMD FX" overclocked the chips in order to make them run as fast as possible. According to Santa Cruz Sentinel, overclocking is a process through which computer equipment is forced to work at a higher speed than originally intended.
