Pacquiao to run for Vice President in 2016 Polls

Pound-for-pound best boxer in the world and Sarangani Rep. Emanuel "Manny" Pacquiao said in an interview aired on dzBB he is eyeing the vice presidency in the 2016 polls. "Come 2016 I am going to run for vice president ... no more boxing at that time."

The report went out from GMA News in response with Pacquiao’s current press tour for the Pacquiao Marquez III fight come November 2011. "But the chairman of the Commission on Elections threw a reality check on Pacquiao’s hopes of a VP run less than five years from now. Chairman Sixto Brillantes said Friday that the champion boxer does not meet the age qualification," GMA added.

“Baka naman nagbibiro lang siya. He can’t run for either Vice President or President by 2016," Brillantes said in a phone interview Friday.

According to reports, Pacquiao will leave Congress at the end of his current term and run as governor of Sarangani in the next elections in 2013. Then, after that, for Vice President of the Philippines in 2016. What’s fueling this drive in politics? Just like many politicians, ambition, under the guise of these ever-popular words commonly used during campaigns – “to serve the people.”
